Oh Comely magazine finds new home

18 March 2016: Independent publishing company, Iceberg Press, announces today it has purchased Oh Comely magazine from Adeline Media

Launched in the spring of 2010 by four friends from their bedrooms, the bi-monthly, Oh Comely, was a pioneer in the new wave of indie mags to hit British newsstands and now has a brand reach of over 105K. It occupies a unique position in the magazine market, offering a genuinely alternative read for creative young women.

Iceberg Press will publish Oh Comely from Issue 30 (on sale 14 April), alongside monthly sister title, The Simple Things magazine, which has shown over 40% growth since it was taken on by Iceberg from Future plc in July 2014.

Co-founder and Managing Director, David Parker, says: “We’ve proved with The Simple Things that good magazines can still thrive and grow and we believe there’s a real opportunity to bring Oh Comely to a wider audience.”

Former Editor of lifestyle craft title Mollie Makes, Lara Watson, has been appointed Editor from Issue 31. Lisa Sykes, co-founder and Editorial Director of Iceberg Press says: “It’s a rare thing to have the chance to publish a truly original magazine. The intelligent mix of personal stories, portraits and pictures, presented in its distinctive pared-back art book style, delivers an emotional, thoughtful magazine that can make you both laugh and cry.”

Co-founders Des Tan and Liz Ann Bennett began Oh Comely, along with co-editor Rosanna Durham, after leaving Oxford University, impressing the newstrade with its promise of an unknown girl on the cover, a place to meet strangers and a chance to look at life afresh. It has built up a loyal fan-base of subscribers and online followers and regularly hosts sell-out reader events.
